The boys participating in the Philmont trek are going to hold a series of practice trips to help prepare them mentally and physically for the upcoming journey in New Mexico. The first of these trips will take place at the Yellow River State Forest located in NE Iowa. It will consist of 4 days of remote backpacking over some of the steepest terrain in the state. The trip will span roughly 15 miles of hiking trails.
We have acquired food from the Philmont Commissary department which will be exactly like the food we’ll receive while on trek. We’ll follow the “Philmont Way” of doing things on this trip in order to prepare for all that Philmont will have in store for us. This will include bear bags, utensil sanitizing, filtering water, etc.
We will depart from the Mercy Urgent Care parking lot at 6AM on Wed, Mar 18th. We will return late afternoon on Sun Mar 22nd.
